Jack YaO
President, Chief Financial Officer

As the president and CFO of Applied Engineering, Jack Yao is responsible for running all facets of the AE business. Jack has a proven engineering and executive management track record and backed by over 20 years of experience driving sales growth in the technology industry. Prior to joining Applied Engineering, Jack was director of business development for Owens Design, responsible for all new business sales and marketing strategies. At Owens Design, he led the strategic sales activities which lead into over 25% new industry and strategic accounts growth year over year. Previously, he served as product manager of Aviza Technology, where he led the design, implementation and market penetration of atomic deposition systems. Prior to Aviza Technology, Jack served as marketing manager and engineering manager at ASML, Silicon Valley Group and Watkins Johnson. He has earned BS of Mechanical Engineering and Material Science degrees at the University of California, Davis; and Professional Leadership Development from Erasmus University Rotterdam.

 

Mark DannA
VP of Sales and Marketing

Mr. Danna has over 30 years experience working in Silicon Valley. Mark started his career working for Watkins Johnson in the semiconductor capital equipment group as an automation design engineer and was eventually promoted to VP of Engineering for WJ. Over the years, at the VP level, Mark has lead several semiconductor capital equipment design and development programs for Watkins Johnson and Asyst Technologies. In 2006, Mr. Danna had the opportunity to take on more of a commercial role as Director of Business Development for Owens Design. While at Owens Design, Mark played a strong role in growing the company in terms of overall project complexity and revenue. For his efforts and results, in 2009, Mr. Danna was promoted to the position of VP of Sales and Marketing for Owens Design where he continued to drive company growth. In 2016, Mark was recruited for and accepted the position of VP and Sales and Marketing for Applied Engineering.

John Villadsen
Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Villadsen is a 30-year veteran of manufacturing, customer service, and quality management leadership, mostly within the semiconductor industry. He held high-ranking vice president positions at Adept Technology, Global Equipment Services, VA Software, Gasonics International, and Watkins-Johnson Company, where he worked for more than 17 years in various management positions of increasing responsibility. Mr. Villadsen holds a bachelor’s degree in education from California State University, Fresno, and has completed various other coursework and seminars in engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and management.

 

Colleen Sweeney
Director of NPI and Program Management

Ms. Sweeney has 25 years’ experience managing programs, staff, and projects in the Semiconductor, Flat Panel Display, Robotics, Satellite and RF Communications industries. With a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from U.C. Davis, she started her career managing microwave and millimeter wave components and receivers for Watkins-Johnson Company. After 9 years she transitioned to the Semiconductor Equipment Group to manage New Product Introductions.  Colleen accepted a position at Gasonics to again manage new product introductions as well as the acquisition integration of Gamma Precision Technology. More recently, she was responsible for the outsourcing of Flat Panel Display Equipment manufacturing to China and robot production. Special Projects included the construction of a PECVD lab for solar panel manufacturing and the development of Quality and Safety Programs. In her current role as Director of NPI and Program Management, Colleen and her team of engineers, program managers, and specialists ensure new products are successfully introduced at Applied Engineering.

 

Katherine Nguyen
Controller          

Mrs. Nguyen has over 30 years of experience working in finance and accounting in the Silicon Valley.  Katherine started her career working for Laidlaw Environmental, a subsidiary of Union Pacific Railroad as an accountant before being promoted to accounting manager.  She worked at different companies throughout the bay area until 2000 when Katherine was recruited for and accepted the position of Controller for Applied Engineering.   At Applied Engineering, Katherine manages accounting policies, procedures and internal controls functions.

Jerry Cutini
Chairman of the Board

Mr. Cutini has worked in the semiconductor equipment industry since 1981. In 1990 he co-founded OnTrak Systems, a CMP wafer cleaning Equipment Company. After developing proprietary CMP technology and executing an initial public offering in 1995 at a value of $225 million, OnTrak was acquired by Lam Research in 1997 for $400 million. Mr. Cutini served at Lam as president of the OnTrak division. In 1999 he joined Gasonics International as EVP of Marketing and Business Development and helped lead the acquisition by Novellus. Tapped by venture capitalists and industry experts, he is a known expert in driving post-merger integrations that quickly achieve profitability and solidify company operations to support rapid growth. This includes the recent acquisitions of Strabaugh’s technology for Revasum. He has served on multiple public and private company boards and is a veteran of the US Navy, where he studied electronics.

May Su

A seasoned semiconductor industry executive, May has worked with technology leaders like KLA-Tencor and Lam Research, implementing strategic growth initiatives that strengthened revenue pipelines and enhanced company success. Previous roles in her three-decade career include: Vice President of Corporate Marketing at KLA-Tencor, Product General Manager at Lam Research, President of US and European Operations at Nova Instruments, VP of Strategic Marketing at Brooks Automation, and VP/GM at Crossing Automation and Aviza Technology. May is currently the active CMO at Kateeva.

May holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from UC Berkeley, and an MBA from Santa Clara University.
